Developing eqGrid
From pilot to product: commercialising the system being trialled in “eFlow and OLTC”.
Energea has set up the development of eqGrid as a project of its own. The aim is to turn the hybrid system being piloted together with Elvia in “eFlow and OLTC” into a finished product for grid operators and for businesses with critical loads.
eqGrid has been established as a separate company, with the purpose of bringing the technology into use in the Nordic and international markets.
From pilot to product
Ten years of development as the foundation
eqGrid builds on several years of work together with Elvia in the IDE programme, with the OLTC pilot for voltage regulation and the FBI pilot for battery support in weak grids. The experience from these, combined with a patented no-break voltage selector, forms the basis of the product.
Three development tracks that meet
Regulation and control with energiScada™, battery support in weak distribution grids and the patented voltage selector were each developed separately. In eqGrid they are brought together in a single grid component.
Standardised and ready for delivery
The system is built and fully tested in the workshop of the panel builder Stevid Elektro, with transformers from Noratel and power electronics from Studer Innotec. The units are delivered ready for installation, as the pilot at Råde showed.
Market and business development
Smart Innovation Norway in Halden assists eqGrid with market analyses and business development. The applications are weak distribution grids, emergency preparedness and critical loads, agriculture and industry, and aquaculture.

The system being commercialised
A hybrid solution with several functions in a single grid component.
Voltage selector for the slow variations
An isolation transformer with several voltage levels and a patented no-break voltage selector handle long-lasting voltage variations, with little load on the battery.
Battery and power electronics for the fast ones
The battery and power electronics handle rapid voltage changes and move current between the phases.
What eqGrid solves
Voltage quality within EN 50160 and FoL, better phase balance, more available capacity in the existing grid and a deferred need for grid reinforcement.
