PQ measurement with energiScada™

Documented voltage quality, from meter to decision basis.

Poor voltage quality is expensive to fix with traditional grid reinforcement, and hard to fix correctly without good measurement data. Energea installs PQ meters and makes near real-time measurement data available in energiScada™, so you know exactly where the problem lies and which measure will solve it.

The service builds on experience from Elvia's projects to strengthen the distribution grid, in which Energea and energiScada™ have played a central part since 2020.

In short

PQ meter in a substation or at a customer site → secure communication → automatic collection in energiScada™ → analysis and a report with recommended measures.

What you get

A complete measurement service, from installation to recommended measure.

PQ meter installed

We install a PQ meter in a substation or at a customer site, tailored to what you want to map. That may be individual customers with poor voltage, or entire substation areas.

Automatic data collection

energiScada™ collects measurement data automatically over secure communication. No manual readings, no lost measurement series.

Near real-time analysis

The measurement data becomes available in energiScada™ in near real time, ready for power quality and voltage quality analysis.

Assessment against requirements

Voltage variations are assessed against the requirements of the Norwegian Regulation on Quality of Supply (FoL) and EN 50160, so that deviations are documented and can be followed up.

Report with recommended measures

You get documented voltage quality and an assessment of which measure fits best. The options are OLTC, a battery system, a voltage booster or traditional grid reinforcement.

Vendor-independent advice

Energea is a vendor-independent consultancy. The recommendation is driven by the measurement data, not by what we sell ourselves.

How it works

From meter to analysis

The PQ meter records voltages, currents and events where it is installed. The measurement data is reported over secure communication to the energiScada™ server, where it is stored and made available in the customer web portal.

Analyses that point to measures

energiScada™ can combine PQ measurement data with AMS data and weather data. That way you see not only that the voltage quality is poor, but why, and where OLTC, a battery system or a voltage booster will give the greatest improvement for the money.

The same platform as in the Elvia pilots

It is the same energiScada™ platform that controls OLTC tap changing and battery systems in Elvia's projects. The measurement service therefore gives you a direct route from mapping to action.

Visualisation of voltage conditions per customer in energiScada™
The visualisation in energiScada™ shows the voltage conditions for each individual customer.

Track record

The methods have been tried out in Elvia's projects for improved voltage quality, documented in the experience reports of the IDE programme.

OLTC

Automatic tap changing of secondary substation transformers improves voltage quality for all the customers the substation supplies.

Battery system

Battery systems reduce the current drawn from the substation and filter rapid voltage variations.

Data-driven choice of measure

Analysis of AMS data determines where OLTC, a battery or a booster works best, and where the grid has to be rebuilt.
